Gaining Clarity

See both the Forest and the Trees

A common pitfall many CEOs, founders and presidents face is that they cannot see the forest for the trees.

The trees are tall, and huddled close together. It is difficult to see what's ahead for more than a few metres. Just like how we can only see what's happening in our immediate area, but not the whole of the country.

We think the business is chopping in the right direction towards the lake objective, but out of a sudden we cut into a hill cliff instead, and found ourselves unable to move forward. If we don't have enough will or resources to back track and restart in the right direction, we will fail. This is the most common reason why most startups and organizations fail. We just need to look around us to see the evidence laid out in plain daylight.

Start by practising foresight.

Forecast your organisation's future as far as you can, find out what could damage or stimulate your business, and make plans for it. Don't worry if the plan is 100% effective or not, for the exercise here is to gain awareness. Make changes today if you see that something is not aligned with your objectives, or if you need to prepare for the business simulation later.

Most importantly, an idiot with a plan can beat a genius without a plan. Do this, and we will have the business plan
